THINK DEEP: Novel Creative Approaches to the Subsurface Residency, Tisamjort collective & Royal Holloway, 2024-2025
ASSEMBLAGE
My study of the surface aims to explore our connection to it, examine changes, and understand our deep-rooted relationship with the ground. I investigate the link between rural living and the natural environment, as well as the adaptive responses to the rhythms of nature. My contemplation focuses on the fundamental material objects that connect people, culture, place, and memory. I emphasize the relationship between art and life. I aim to reconnect with our identity that is grounded in the surface through the gestures of the works, their material context, and their location. My work expresses a desire to explore and strengthen a sense of identity that is closely linked to tangible aspects of existence. Essentially, it highlights the idea that our sense of self and our connections to the world can be reinforced through the physical presence and context of artistic expressions. My works explore the progression of change and the assemblage of our environment. I examine how change occurs over time and how different elements of our surroundings come together to form our environment. Central to my exploration is the focus on destruction, which serves as a pathway to creation and progress. As we pave the way for growth and expansion, this transformation through destruction creates a fundamental change in everything on the surface. I have created sculptures and installations using materials such as cement, silk, charcoal, wood, and stone as part of my experimental and my contemplative approach toward experiences and memories of place. This blend of different elements symbolizes how various influences, experiences, or memories intersect in the environment. This coming together of diverse objects illustrates what I refer to as the "contamination process." This term denotes a dynamic interaction where elements influence, alter, and shape one another over time.
